These rules are designed
with three purposes in mind:
1.
Fairness to all
players
2.
Efficiency in
running a maximum number of games during allotted times
3.
Minimization of
possible disputes between participants
*For reference a GAME is
defined as playing to the score of 21 points, a MATCH is the best 2 out of 3
games.
Equipment
A.
Pits: Framed 30"x30" box
filled with Dirt / Clay mixture
B.
Cups: 3” PVC flush with the top of the dirt (playing distance of 21' from cup to cup)
C.
Washers: Four
per team - 2.5” OD / 1” ID (washers will be provided)
A.
2 players per
team / 96 teams / double elimination / 2 out of 3 per match
1.
There will be 12
pair of washer pits used during the tournament (24 teams at a time will play)
2.
All 12 pits will
start play at the same time.
3.
Teams will play
best two out of three games*
4.
*There will be a
20 minute time clock in effect. An alert will sound at 15 minutes. Another
alert will sound at 20 minutes. The players in possession of washers will
finish pitching their four washers and take score. At this time if the game is
not complete each team will choose one player to pitch four washers and add
those points to the current score. Whichever team leads in score after those
pitches will win that game. If at the
end of that game the match is tied (1 to 1) the teams will move to designated
pits to finish the next game to a full 21 points.
B.
Scoring
1.
One point for
washer closest to the cup (any distance). Three points for a washer leaning over
the edge of the cup. Five points for a washer in the cup.
2.
Only one team
may score per round and will score points for all washers closer than
opponent’s closest washer.
3.
Cancel scoring
will be in effect. (Example: If team A has a leaner and team B has a leaner
those points will cancel and the next closest washer will be scored).
4.
First team to 21
points wins the game. Best two out of three games wins the match and
advances.
A.
Game play
1.
At beginning of
the match each team shall determine which end they will play from, there will be no
switching sides after games once the match has begun.
2.
First team to
pitch will be determined by team on top of that bracket. After initial pitches
the team that scores last will pitch first. After completion of a game the
winning team of that game will start the next game.
3.
Each player will
pitch their four washers in a row followed by their opponent.
4.
Pitches must be
made within the pit with front of
foot anywhere behind the front of the cup. Only the player pitching is allowed in the pit.
5.
Scoring must be
agreed to and changed on your scoreboard BEFORE picking up washers. Initial
violation of this rule will be a warning; multiple violations may result in
forfeiture of that match.
6.
If scoring can’t
be agreed to players may call a judge to make a FINAL ruling on scoring.
B.
After the match
1.
When you have
finished your match please reset your scoreboards to zero and exit the pits.
2.
A player from
BOTH teams shall report to the scorers table with all washers. Advise
scorekeepers of winner and loser of the match.
3.
You will then be
advised of when your next match will begin.
A.
Disputes
1.
If two players
can not agree on scoring for a round, a judge will be called BEFORE washers are
picked up. The judge will make the final ruling on the scoring, if a ruling
can’t be made between two washers the washers will cancel each other and the
next washer will be scored. Arguing with a judge on scoring can be considered
grounds for elimination of team from tournament.
B.
Practice Pits
1.
6 Practice pits
will be provided. These pits will be used by the 24 teams playing in the next
round of the tournament. Each pit will
hold eight players for practice; one
player will pitch and retrieve their washers followed by the next player and so
on. All players at the practice pit should be aware that they are next to play,
therefore there should be no excuses for missing your match.
C.
No Shows /
Absentees
1.
When the 20
minute clock expires for a round (or when all teams playing finish their matches if less than 20 minutes), there will be a call made for the next 24
teams. There will be a 5 minute delay until the beginning of the START of game
play.
2.
Once the clock
begins on game play any team not at their designated washer pit will forfeit that match. If one player from a
team is present that one player will pitch from one pit, the other pit is vacated
and the other team scores “free points” until the end of that game. At the beginning of the next game the absent
player will play at the open pit.
D.
Conduct
1.
All players are
to conduct themselves in a matter respectful to other players, referees, and
the sport of washers. Unacceptable conduct will result in severe punitive
action, to be applied at the discretion of the referees. Unacceptable conduct
includes, but is not limited to, fighting, abuse of referees and abuse of other
players as well as any employees / patrons of the facility.
E.
Interpretation of
Rules
1.
Final
interpretation of these rules is made at the sole discretion of Bombat Washer
